We're looking for very special people to staff The Tennis Academy at Harvard! If
you love people, especially kids, enjoy working hard as an integral part of a team and really get
energized watching success emerge as a result of your efforts -kids being
successful-then you should apply for a summer position at TAH.
As we start the hiring process, there are many highly sought after instructor positions, as
well as positions for a videographer, a Director of Operations, and Team Building & Life Skills
Instructor/Lunch-time Activities Coordinator/Health Care Supervisor.
These are only summer positions, working Mondays through Fridays. Orientation begins
on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 and camp is in session from Monday, June 11 through
August 17, 2012.
Instructor Positions
The Tennis Academy at Harvard offers summer-only, full-time positions as tennis instructors for various levels of
play and various ages. The applicants must be highly motivated, skilled tennis players with sophisticated and sensitive
people skills. These individuals must love kids, be mature, and be knowledgeable about managing and motivating groups of
young campers. In your role as an instructor, you will be responsible for the campers'
safety, their tennis development, good sportsmanship, respect for others, independence, and discipline through the sport of tennis.
This is a comprehensive teaching position requiring your constant attention and motivation to deliver the very best tennis
instruction and care to great kids. You are expected to always be on time, to exhibit exemplary sportsmanship with enthusiasm
and energy, to take advantage of the many learning experiences made available to you by the camp, and to integrate
these experiences into your own teaching repertoire.
Non-Instructor Positions
There are three non-instructor positions that are very important to the functioning of The Tennis Academy at Harvard:
Director of Operations
The Director of Operations is the backbone of the camp. The camp runs
efficiently due to the tasks this position requires. This is a challenging
position and requires early mornings, lifting, running around, handling
multiple tasks at once and most importantly being a team player.
A candidate that would qualify for this position would be someone who
would enjoy facing these challenges and is dedicated. The candidate needs
to be able to give up their own needs and can handle being told what to do
anytime during the day. Also, the candidate needs to be able to work with
others to complete the tasks necessary: Without the Director of Operations
the camp would not be successful.
The Director of Operations arrives earlier then the other employees and
begins setting up for the day. This position also requires cleaning up after
breakfast and lunch, t-shirt time with the campers, inventory, maintaining
the storage room, filling and lifting water jugs, getting ready for the next day
and anything else the staff or campers need. The Director of Operations
arrives a few days before the camp starts also. The candidate must set up the
storage room to run efficiently throughout the duration of the camp. At the
end of the camp, the Director of Operations closes down which is one of the
toughest tasks.
This position pays $14.00 per hour,
would start June 6th, and goes through the summer until August.
VideographerFILLED!
The goal of this position is to develop the video and photograph memorable segments of the camp that best describe the philosophy
practices, spirit, and fun of the camp while emphasizing the highest level of competitive play for each division. There should
be uniformity in the approach and a common narrator. In addition, this role involves determining the creative needs of the programs,
then videotaping and editing the materials for each of the five programs.
With this as the overall mandate, this is a full-time, summer-only position in charge of all publicity processes between
The Tennis Academy at Harvard and its campers, campers' parents, and the general public.
Health, Growth, and Skills
This is an exciting position for someone who likes diversity and is great at multitasking! Three distinct responsibilities
are incorporated into this position:
The Health Care Supervisor position entails providing required health care services: caring for any injuries or minor
illnesses that occur during the day, administering and monitoring any medications that are brought to the camp by campers'
parents, and keeping records for Department of Public Health officials.
The Lunch-Time Activities Coordinator runs the very popular twenty-five-minute lunchtime activities program that
employs 15-20 of the TAH instructors to provide fun and energetic activities and games for the campers.
Finally, the Team Building & Life Skills classroom component of this multi-faceted position involves classroom
experiential/interactive instruction for campers to work on their performance enhancement strategies, self-confidence,
and social life skills.
